A daughter of the late Virgil and Vallie Shumake Weaver, she was born on July 4, 1923 in Bridgewater and lived the majority of her life in the Endless Caverns area. She graduated from Harrisonburg High School.
Mrs. Myers was a member of the Shenandoah Valley Chapter No. 76, Order of the Eastern Star and the Ladies Auxiliary of Hose No. 4.
During Mr. Myers’s service in the US Army during WW II, they lived in various states. Mr. and Mrs. Myers owned and operated “Buddy & Violet’s Tax Service” and enjoyed raising strawberries and Christmas trees on their farm.
Violet had worked at Mick or Mack, Peoples Drug Store, Harrisonburg Telephone Co., Dunham Bush and was a USDA Poultry Inspector. She enjoyed baking and spending time with her family along with gardening, growing sunflowers and marigolds. She loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, boating and riding her 4-wheeler. She always wanted to spend her Mother’s Day fishing.
On Dec. 31,1942 she married Ernest F. “Buddy” Myers, Jr. who preceded her in death in Jan. 26, 2012.
She is survived by three daughters, Debbie Daily and her late husband, Bob, of Harrisonburg; Trenna Haislop and husband, James, of Timberville; and Bonnie Slick and husband, Ed, of Hagerstown, MD; two sisters, Geraldine Messeley of Harrisonburg and Claudine Humphrey of Greenville, NC. She also leaves five grandchildren, Tony Miller, Mick Hersh, Tammy Hersh, Rob Daily, and James Haislop, Jr.; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Dinges.
Funeral services will be held at one o’clock Sunday afternoon, Feb. 23, 2014, from the Chapel of the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Glen Turner officiating. Interment will be in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 Saturday evening, Feb. 22, 2014 at the funeral home.
Active pallbearers will be Wade Berdeaux, Brian Burkholder, Jason Parks, Stephen See, Phillip Shahan and Michael Hatcher.
