Ruby Norris Dunahay Einarsen

She was born in Tuckerman, Arkansas on October 20, 1920 and was the daughter of the late Otho Dunahay and Lucille Baumgarner Dunahay Sharp.

Ruby graduated from Newport High School, Newport, Arkansas. She met and was married briefly to her first husband, Emmett Harris, who was killed in action in France during WWII. She joined the Women’s Army Corps and served as Sgt. Surgical Tech during WWII.

While in the service she met Robert Howard Einarsen and they were married on December 23, 1946 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoboken, NJ. They made their home in Englewood, NJ and moved to Harrisonburg in January 1953. Robert preceded her in death on November 22, 1978.

Ruby attended Epiphany Lutheran Church in Richmond and was a member of Muhlenberg Lutheran Church in Harrisonburg. She was very active teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and Weekday Church School. She was a homemaker, an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles.

She is survived by a daughter, Carole S. Einarsen Alfriend and husband, Malcolm of Richmond; a son, Robert Howard Einarsen, Jr. and wife, Corky, of Wasilla, Alaska; numerous nieces and nephews, including Thord K. Einarsen of Williamsburg and nephew-in-law, Eugene G. Ward of Fredericksburg; three great-nephews; five great-great-nieces and nephews. A sister, Pauline Woodard, preceded her in death.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at Muhlenberg Lutheran Church with The Rev. Robert F. Humphrey, The Rev. Brett M. Davis and The Rev. J. Christopher Price officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
