Jerry Williams, III, 63, a native of Harrisonburg, relocated to the Northern Virginia area and resided there for the past 38 years, entered eternal rest Friday evening, Feb 24, 2012 at the Fauquier Hospital in Warrenton, VA.
He was the son of the late Jerry Williams, Jr. and Catherine Blakey Williams; He was born on Aug. 28, 1948 in Harrisonburg and graduated from Harrisonburg High School. Following high school he attended EMC. Mr. Williams served in the Air Force during the Vietnam Era. At an early age he gave his life to Christ at the First Baptist Church, Harrisonburg, VA and was baptized by Rev. T. C. Allen. Later he became a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Rectortown, VA. Mr. Williams had worked for IBM for 26 years, which later became BAE Systems.
He is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn Grant Williams; two sons, Jai Williams of Harrisonburg and Jerry Williams, IV of Marshall, VA; two daughters, Raquel Williams of Harrisonburg and Nicole Williams of Warrenton, VA; nine grand-children; and four great-grandchildren; his mother-n-law, Mary Edith Grant of Marshall, VA; He also leaves two brothers, Calvin Williams (Dawn); and Raymond Williams; one brother-in-law, William E. Grant, Jr. (Darlene) of Marshall, VA and three sisters, Lois Williams; Cathy Harrison (James) and Lillian Jordan (Alphonso); and three sisters-in-law, Erma Robinson; Melissa Grant and Latisha Grant all of Marshall, VA; and a host of aunts, uncles, family members and friends.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the funeral services on Wednesday at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at two o’clock Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 29, 2012 from the Chapel of the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home with the Rev. James Harrison officiating. Interment will follow in Newtown Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by American Legion Post # 76.
