Obituary of Janet Senger McCoy
Janet Senger McCoy, 95, previously of Harrisonburg, passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at the Autumn House in York, PA. She was born at Dale Enterprise, VA on February 11, 1920 and was the daughter of the late Buford C. and Mary Elva Reed Senger. She was united in marriage to Joseph L. McCoy on February 11, 1953. Janet was a graduate of Dayton High School, class of 1938 and a lifelong resident of Harrisonburg, with the exception of 12 years in Pennsylvania. She was an active member of Otterbein United Methodist Church, the Adult Sunday School Class and Open Door Fellowship. She was a member of Shenandoah Valley Chapter #76, Order of Eastern Star in Harrisonburg and served as the Treasurer for 26 years, resigning in 2010. Janet was also an active life member of the Ladies Auxiliary Hose Co. #4 in Harrisonburg and a life member of the Virginia State Fireman’s Ladies Auxiliary. She was a former member of York, PA Chapter #169 Order of Eastern Star, a member of the YWCA Wives and attended Calvary United Methodist Church in York, PA. Janet moved back to York, PA in 2013. She is survived by a daughter, Jane McCoy Hoover and husband, Tom, of Harrisonburg, VA; a son, Joseph L. McCoy, Jr and wife, Paula of York, PA; two grandchildren, Michael Wade Hoover of Ashburn, VA and Autumn Lynn McCoy of York, PA; and a sister-in-law, Norma McCoy Babb of Winchester, VA; along with nieces, cousins and many friends. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, R.V. Puffenbarger, II; and a brother Harlan A. Senger. A funeral service will be held at Otterbein United Methodist Church in Harrisonburg, VA on Friday, December 4, 2015 at 11:00 am with Rev. Glen Langston and Rev. Adam Blagg officiating. Order of Eastern Star will conduct a memorial at the beginning of the service. The casket will be closed. A burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent Otterbein United Methodist Church, 176 W. Market St., Harrisonburg, VA 22801 and/or to Shriners Children Hospital, 3551 N.
