She was born on March 24, 1912 in Sperryville, VA and was the daughter of the late Ernest M. and Sallie Lillard Schwartz.
Jane attended Westhampton College in Richmond and Richmond Polytechnical Institute. In her earlier years she enjoyed art and painting. She loved flowers, gardening, cooking and being with her family. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Harrisonburg.
On September 15, 1934 she married, Clarence W. Ewing, who preceded her in death on October 24, 1983.
She is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Ann Ewing Homan of Toms River, NJ, Sallie Ewing Funkhouser and husband, Joe of Harrisonburg, one son, John William “Bill” Ewing and wife, Nancy of Fairfax; six grandchildren, Laura Jane Homan Brick and husband, Ed of Toms River, NJ, Elizabeth C. “Betsy” Homan Cole and husband, Rob of Purcellville, VA, Elizabeth Funkhouser Kistler and husband, David of Harrisonburg, Kemper Funkhouser and wife, Ashleigh of Harrisonburg, Scott William Ewing of Vienna, VA and Victoria Ewing Luck and husband, Mike of Arlington, VA; six great-grandchildren, Edward and Patrick Brick, Ashley and Tyler Cole, Peyton Funkhouser, and Lily Kistler. She was preceded in death by a sister Louise “Billy” Catherine Schwartz on September 1, 1987.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, January 20th at Woodbine Cemetery with Dr. John F. Sloop officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to RMH Hospice or First Presbyterian Church.
