George Franklin “Frank” Mitchell, Jr., 70, of Melrose, ended his journey here on earth on Friday, January 5, 2024 at Chippenham Hospital in Richmond. A special thank you to his nurse Gracie. He fought long and hard, but he is at peace now.
He is survived by his parents, George and Ellie Kennedy Mitchell of Broadway; his wife of 52 years, Ramona Baker Mitchell of Melrose; a daughter, Shannon McWilliams, who he loved and adored, and her husband, Ashby, of Melrose; a son, Lester Mitchell; a sister, Kay Plogger and husband, Lanny, of Timberville; eight grandchildren, Colton Mitchell you were his Josh Randall deer camp loving grandson, who he was so proud of and called you his son, his fiancé, Skyler Breeden who he just loved, never forget those eggs and ketchup; Dakota Mitchell, who he loved and enjoyed listening to his hunting and fishing stories; Jonathan McWilliams who he said brought back the fun in his life and shared his love of food and the outdoors; Madalynn McWilliams who always made him wear his heart on his sleeve and spoiled her rotten; Chandler Hedrick, Dillon Mitchell, and Jayden Paniagua, he loved watching you grow up and new baby, Oaklee, who he was so excited to be born because it was about time for a baby around here. He had four great-grandchildren, Liam Mitchell, Peyton Fritz, Landyn Mitchell his candy eating best friend, Raelynn Mitchell, who always kept him on his toes eating as many popsicles as you want girl; two very special people, Megan Corder, you were so important to him, you always had a special place in his heart; an adopted daughter, Krissy Shifflett, you had the ability to always make him laugh, he loved you so much, you were like a daughter; and his special pups, Chuck and Bella.
Honoring his wishes, he will be cremated and there will be a Frank style shindig at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to his wife, Ramona, to assist with funeral expenses or to the Rockingham/Harrisonburg SPCA.
