She was born on July 9, 1939 in Newtown, CT and was the daughter of the late Kenneth Byron and Barbara Hebert Smith.
Donna graduated from Newtown High School in 1957 and Marietta College, in Marietta, OH in 1961, where she met her husband. She was employed with Coldwell Banker as a broker before retiring; she was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, and very active in community clubs, Harrisonburg Junior Woman’s Club, Harrisonburg Woman’s Club, Spotswood Garden Club, Rockingham/Harrisonburg S.P.C.A. and she volunteered for numerous organizations. She was a very charitable person and enjoyed animals especially horses, gardening and crafts. Being a mother and grandmother was her greatest joy.
On July 8, 1961, she married her husband, Giles R. Stone, who survives.
Also surviving are her children, Giles Russell Stone, Jr. and wife, Kimberly, of Henrico, Todd Byron Stone and wife, Alexandria, of Richmond, and Marilyn Stone Pendlebury and husband, Chris, of Mechanicsville; her grandchildren, Emily Erard-Stone and her mother, Andrea Erard, Nicholas and Elliott Stone, Jack, Cate and Erin Pendlebury; a brother, Roderick Smith and wife Kristen of Kansas; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Smith of CT; brother-in-law, Gary Gruenewald of CA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth B. Smith and a sister, Cheryl Gruenewald.
A visitation for family and friends will be held 6-8 pm Friday, February 2, 2024 at Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Myotonic Dystrophy Foundation, www.myotonic.org.
