Derrick Lonn Ray, 50, a resident of Hinton, passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at Sentara-RMH Medical Center.
He was born on October 29, 1963 and is the son of Ruby N. Joseph Ray of Hinton and the late Robert L. Ray.
Derrick lived his early childhood in Fairfax and later moved to the Hinton area where he attended Turner Ashby High School. He enjoyed art, music, poetry, fishing and loved the mountains. He attended Rawley Springs Mennonite Church.
In addition to his mother he is survived by a daughter, Melinda Gleason and a granddaughter, Karmin McClain both of Pennsylvania; four sisters, Angela Lambert of Harrisonburg, Katrina Sager and husband, Jeff, of Hinton, Regal Ross of Harrisonburg, and Bobbi Carper and husband, Jake, of Keezletown; a brother, Chad Ray and wife, Krissy of Harrisonburg; ten nephews; seven nieces; two great nephews.
In addition to his father he was preceded in death by two nephews.
The family will receive friends 6-8:00 PM, Saturday, May 24, 2014 at Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM on Sunday, May 25, 2014 at the Rawley Springs Mennonite Church with Pastor Robert Mallow, Pastor Paul Reed and Pastor Keith Crider officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Rawley Springs Mennonite Church or the Clover Hill Fire and Rescue.
