David is survived by his wife Sharon (Younger) Berry, his four children: Pamela Berry-Epperson, David Edward Berry III (the late Jennifer Daise Berry), Candace Byrd (Aaron Byrd), and Danielle Berry, his siblings: Earl Berry, Thermond Berry, Sylvia Brooks, Gwendolyn Bonner, Jaqueline Berry-Haseeb (Nuradeen Haseeb), Doretha Speller; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson. A host of cousins, nieces and nephews also survive him. David was preceded in death by his father and mother, his brothers Jimmy Berry, Marvin Berry, and his sister Juanita Robbins.
David was born on August 9, 1944, in Windsor, NC and was the son of the late David Edward Berry, Sr. and Lucy Ethel (Ward) Berry. After graduating from high school David moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he lived and worked for many years before moving to Syracuse, New York where he lived for over 30 years. David settled in Harrisonburg, Virginia with family in the summer of 2017.
David retired from National Grid Power Corporation in Syracuse, NY. where he worked as a dispatcher. David was a landlord who owned several rental properties. He was a licensed home inspector. David also worked as a parts-driver for Mancon LLC in Harrisonburg.
David received Christ at an early age. He later entered church ministry as a deacon, Bible teacher, and a preacher. David received his bachelor’s degree in religion from Liberty University. He was ordained by Second National Ketoctan Baptist Association, under the sponsorship of Reverend Dr. Clarence Williams (deceased) former pastor of First Baptist Church. At the time of his death, he served as an Associate Minister at First Baptist church under pastor Reverend John Butler. David was a faithful church leader who was devoted to the ministry.
In his free time David enjoyed spending time with his family; fishing, gardening, playing guitar and singing in gospel quartets. David was cherished by his family and church family and will be dearly remembered and missed.
A Viewing/ Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Lindsey Funeral Home, 473 S. Main Street, Harrisonburg. VA.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 611 Broad Street, Harrisonburg, VA. Flowers can be sent to the Funeral Home by the afternoon of April 16th.
