Alice Bocock Humes

Alice Bocock Humes, 97, of Harrisonburg, died Saturday morning, November 9, 2024. A daughter of the late Murl Bocock Drury and J. Thomas Bocock, she was born on January 11, 1927 in Louisa County, VA. On May 27, 1950 she married John William “Bill” Humes, Sr. who preceded her in death on April 3, 1994. She is survived by one son, John William “John Bill” Humes, Jr. and wife Jan, of Bridgewater; one grandson John Robert Humes, and wife Jenny, of Bridgewater; two great-grandchildren, Jamie and Billy Humes; one sister, Maxine Wright, of Harrisonburg; one brother, Calvin Bocock, of Ohio; and a step-brother, William Drury, of Winchester. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Isabelle Thompson and Nancy Werner and two brothers, Jack and John Bocock. Alice was a member of First Presbyterian Church on Court Square and volunteered as a helper in the Kindergarten class for 25 years. She also was a member of Fire Company #1 Ladies Auxiliary. Alice did Day Care in her home for a number of preschool children and some of them have stayed in contact with her all of these years. The family would like to thank longtime friends, Louise Miller and Sarah Ritchie and caregiver Karen Martin. Honoring her wishes she will be cremated and a private graveside service will be held at a later date, with Rev. Dr. Jon Heeringa officiating.
