Colonel William F. Kuba, 86, of Hummelstown, PA, died December 8, 2018, in Colonial Park Care Center, Harrisburg, PA. He was born March 22, 1932, near Latrobe, PA (Westmoreland County), the son of the late Andrew J. Kuba, Sr. and Agnes C. (Miller) Kuba. He graduated from Derry Township High School in June 1950, and entered the U.S. Army on September 5, 1950, during the Korean Conflict. He had several military assignments, both in the U.S. and overseas, during a long military career. He separated from military service in March 1987. He was a retired Army Colonel and a Veteran of the Korean War (upon retirement, he was promoted to the honorary rank of Brigadier General, Pennsylvania National Guard Retired list), a retired federal employee and a former Planner for the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency a graduate of the Army Command and General Staff College (Fort Leavenworth, KS), and a member of the Army Officer Candidate School Alumni Association and the Army OCS Hall of Fame (Fort Benning, GA). He was a life member of the Pennsylvania National Guard Association, VFW Post 1213, Rutherford, PA, American Legion Post 515, Latrobe, PA, Military Officer Association of America, Commanders Club, DAV, 28th Infantry Division Association, and the Pennsylvania Military Museum. He was a member of St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church, Harrisburg. He also served as a Dauphin County "Meals on Wheels" volunteer for many years in the Tri-Communities of Swatara Township. He was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Phillies and the Washington Redskins, loved traditional country music, and looked forward to his daily morning walks at the mall. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ellen (Kozemchak) Kuba; two sons, William F., Jr., of Voorhees, NJ, and James A., and his wife Candice, of Piketown; a daughter, Constance A. (widow of David M. Fisher), of Mechanicsburg; a brother, Richard J., and his wife Cathy, of Latrobe, PA; one grandson, and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, stepmother, three brothers, and two sisters. He was a likeable person, a great husband and father, and enjoyed his many years of military service. He will be missed by all who knew him. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, December 14, 2018, at the Neill Funeral Home, 3501 Derry Street, Harrisburg, PA, with a visitation from 10:00 am until the time of service. Burial; with military honors, will be held at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Humane Society of Harrisburg PA, 7790 Grayson Rd, Harrisburg, PA 17111.
