He was born June 8, 1926 in Atlas, Northumberland County, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Horoschak and Catherine Cashman Murray Horoschak, and a sister, Betty Shedleski.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Betty Ann Dunchock Horoschak; a daughter Diane R. Myers (husband John) of Camp Hill; three sons Walter E. Horoschak (wife Vicki) of Norco, CA, John D. Horoschak (wife Patricia) of Liverpool, PA, and A. Michael Horoschak (wife Nanette) of Swatara Township; five grandchildren, Kimberly Myers, Melissa Myers Rhoads, Amanda Horoschak Houseal, Amy Horoschak Hoover and Rachael Horoschak; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and four sisters, Patricia Kinder, of Nanticoke, PA, Elaine Jurgill, of Wilburton, PA, June Finch-Cale, of Elizabethtown, PA and Sylvia Breakey, of Flagstaff, AZ.
Walter attended parochial grammar school and graduated from Coal Township High School. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the US Army Air Corps from 1944 to 1946 in Italy, Greece and North Africa. While serving in the Air Corps he was trained in radio operations and maintenance and was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant. In civilian life, he was employed as a technician by Westinghouse, a field engineer by the Philco Corporation, and an equipment specialist and logistician by the Department of the Army. He retired in 1986 as the Deputy Director of Logistics, US Army Garrison, Fort Indiantown Gap. In his spare time he enjoyed amateur radio, competitive pistol shooting, square and round dancing, and volunteering at St. Catherine Laboure Church and School where he was a member of the parish and an instructor of religious education and creative writing; and was a member of the St. Cyril Methodius Association. He also volunteered for Morning Star Pregnancy Services, Capital Area Pregnancy Services, United Way of the Capital Region, and St. Francis Soup Kitchen.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 12:00 PM Saturday, December 14, 2013 in St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church, 4000 Derry St., Harrisburg. Private burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. A viewing will be held 10:00 AM Saturday until the time of the service.
