Vera Borne, 80, of Harrisburg passed away peacefully in the presence of her loving family on October 16th, at Penn State Health Hershey Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on January 17, 1937, in Philadelphia to Charles Francis and Catherine Conboy Wilson, both of whom preceded her in death. She was married for 37 years to her husband, Ron, who passed away in 1999, also on October 16th. She was predeceased by a brother, Charles Wilson and his wife Elba. She is survived by two sons, Michael (Colleen) of Dover and Stephen (Lara) of Camp Hill, two daughters, Sheilah Borne Fuller (Tim) and Eileen Hower (Jeremy) both of Paxtang Borough. She leaves behind 10 grandchildren who adored their MomMom, Katie, James, Brendan, Kevin, Grace, Brigid, Natalie, Jack, Liam and Connor. She is also survived by a sister, Rita Wilson and a sister-in-law, Jeanne Borne, both of Philadelphia, and many nieces and nephews.
Vera retired from Macy's Department Store where she made many friends and had a loyal following of customers. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church where she was involved with the Mary Maids and the Second Time Around Shop. She embraced and celebrated her Irish heritage and loved listening and singing along to Irish music and watching her granddaughters Irish step dance. She enjoyed traveling to Ireland and around the world, reading, doing the New York Times crossword puzzle and most of all, spending time with her children, grandchildren and many friends.
A mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Vera's life will be held at St. Catherine Laboure Church on Friday, October 20th at 11am immediately followed by the burial at Resurrection Cemetery. There will be a traditional Irish wake and viewing at the home of Tim and Sheilah Borne Fuller on Thursday from 6 to 8pm. Please contact the Neill Funeral Home for address information.
