Shirley P. McCarthy, 88, of Lower Paxton Township passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 1 at Spring Creek Rehabilition Center. She was born August 11, 1935, in Towanda, PA to the late Frank and Edith Page. She graduated from Towanda High School class of 1953.
Shirley was married to her former husband Joseph McCarthy for 25 years during which his job took the McCarthy family to live in Binghamton, NY, Saratoga, CA, West Chiltington, England, State College, PA, and Rockford IL. After that she moved a final time to be closer to family living in the Harrisburg area. She then started Cleen Sweep, a successful residential cleaning business she ran for several years.
Shirley is survived by her brother Don Page and his wife Barb of Swiftwater, PA. Shirley’s sister Joan predeceased her. She is also survived by daughters Sharon Hoffman (husband Kevin) of Harrisburg; Colleen LaBonte (David) of Nashville, TN; Jolene Keffer (Bill) of Harrisburg; Jeri Lynn Wysong (Dennis) of Rockford, IL; Kathleen Whyrick (Tracey) of West Palm Beach, FL; Kelly Mashek (Wayne) of Cresco, IA; and 6 nieces, 2 nephews, 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Shirley’s family was the world to her. She stayed in constant touch through cards, letters, phone calls and facetime no matter how near or far. Shirley will be most remembered for her outgoing, friendly personality. She never missed a chance to strike up a conversation with anyone and everyone she met. Over the years she made many close friends. Throughout her life she always kept her sense of style and fashion and always tried to look her best every day.
Visitation will be Friday, November 10 at 10:00am followed by a funeral mass at 11:00am at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 6150 Allentown Blvd, Harrisburg.
