Born in Harrisburg 1949, he was the son of the late Janus Joseph and Jeanne B. (Bidaman) Briar; and preceded in death by his granddaughter, Kaitlyn Michelle Briar.
Surviving are two sons, Michael D. Briar and Richard E. Briar, Jr., and companion, Lesley K. Houser; three granddaughters, Ashleigh, Rylee, and Braelyn Briar; two sisters, Diane Vaughn and Jan Ulerick, and several nieces and nephews.
Richard was a retired steelworker from Mittal Steel Co and a former employee of Bethlehem Steel Corp.
Richard was a life member of the Progress Fire Co. Home Association and a member of The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Penbrook American Legion Post 730, and a graduate of Central Dauphin East High School, class of 1968.
He enjoyed walking his dog, shooting pool at the club, watching NASCAR and going to races. He also liked to visit his two sons and take the granddaughters to McDonald’s and go to their games.
A Memorial Service will be at 11:00 AM, Thursday, February 8, 2024, in The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 3700 Rutherford St., Harrisburg. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
