Maria Rose Furfaro, 98, of Susquehanna Township passed away peacefully with family by her side on Friday, December 11, 2015. She was born on September 17, 1917 in Mammola, Italy and was the daughter of the late Vincenzo and Angela Piccolo. Maria Rose was preceded in death by her husband Francesco who passed away on March 17, 1994. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Phillip, Joseph and Nicholas Piccolo. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Harrisburg and a member of the Order Sons of Italy. She is remembered as a loving mother and grandmother.
Maria Rose is survived by her loving children: daughter Teresa Furfaro Batko and husband Michael of Harrisburg, daughter Rita Furfaro of Harrisburg and son Nicodemo Furfaro and wife Deborah of Harrisburg. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Frank Hollister and wife Regina of Camp Hill, Barrett Hollister and wife Giulia of Marysville, Sharon Berger and husband Daniel of Grantham, Daniel Furfaro of Baltimore and John Furfaro of Harrisburg. Surviving great grandchildren are: Lindsay Bergin and husband Jeffrey of Kennett Square, Dylan Hollister of Philadelphia, Noah Hollister of Marysville and Sophia Hollister of Marysville.
Maria Rose worked over thirty years as a professional seamstress for Mary Sachs and Junior Dress Shop in downtown Harrisburg. In her past time, she enjoyed cooking and family time.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at St. Catherine Laboure Roman Catholic Church, 4000 Derry St. Harrisburg. Viewing will be from 10:00 am to time of Mass. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
The family wishes to extend their thanks to the Homeland Hospice of Harrisburg who assisted in Maria Rose’s care for the past 4 years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Homeland Hospice 2300 Vartan Way #205 Harrisburg PA 17110.
