Rev. Leroy Schurman Adams, Jr., Christian missionary and educator, quietly passed from this life into eternal life on August 8, 2018. A Service to celebrate his life will be held at 12 PM on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at the Beavertown God’s Missionary Church, 1653 Creek Rd, Middleburg PA 17842. Viewing will begin at 10 AM.
Leroy Adams was born on October 02, 1933 in Kingswood, KY. He moved, with his family, to Colorado Springs, CO, when he was eleven months old. He received a BA in Theology from People’s Bible College, Colorado Springs, CO, in 1955. He took his first teaching job at Salem Bible Institute, Salem OH, in 1957. His first missionary trip was to Ireland, in January of 1958 with his uncle, Rev. Paul Finch, Sr. and Rev. Glenn Griffith. On June 14, 1958, he was married to Myrtle Arlene Wildhagen, daughter of missionaries to South Africa. In 1959, Leroy & Myrtle went to Eritrea, E. Africa under Evangelistic Faith Missions where they served until 1978. While there, their children: Marie Lynn Adams, Melvin Leroy Adams (Sr.), Arlene Jean Stence, Edith Ruth Anthony, and Lowell Allen Adams were born.
He is survived by his wife and their five children, his brother, Dale Adams of Norton, OH, 3 nieces, 2 nephews, 18 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren.
His parents, Leroy and Esther (Finch) Adams, his sister, Joann Hobbs, and his son-in-law, Luis Stence, preceded him in death.
He spent his life as a Christian missionary and educator, serving in Eritrea, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Ghana, Ukraine, Egypt, and the US. He received a Bachelors degree, two Masters degrees and an honorary Doctorate. He was an ordained minister with the Wesleyan Holiness Association.
In retirement years, he settled in Penns Creek, PA where he attended Mountain Road God’s Missionary Church.
