Joseph F. Covaleski, 87, of Camp Hill and formerly of Atlas, PA, died Friday, April 5, 2024 in Camp Hill Skilled Nursing Center. He was born September 18, 1936, a son of the late Stanley and Jean (Novack) Covaleski. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service, Harrisburg, and was a graduate of Mt. Carmel Twp. High School, HACC and Penn State. A proud U.S. Army Veteran, Joe considered it an honor to have served in the U.S. Military, from North Carolina to Berlin, Germany, where he made numerous lifelong friends. He was also a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Camp Hill, VFW Post 7530, and the American Legion Post 109. Joe was an avid marathon runner and cat lover who helped care for a colony of feral cats at the VFW in Mechanicsburg for over a decade. He also enjoyed his many friends and fellow runners from the Harrisburg YMCA, where he was a dedicated member for most of his adult life. Joe was a very generous, considerate, and kind man.
Surviving are his two sons, Glenn Newmin and wife Carol of Colorado, and Bruce Newmin and wife Dawn of Connecticut; two grandchildren, Maiya and Kalyn; his brother, Anthony and wife Christine of Kulpmont, PA; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Stanley and Fred.
The family is especially grateful to Stephen Williams for taking such amazing care of Joe throughout his years of illness and for being such a trusting friend and confidante. They would also like to thank the staff of Camp Hill Nursing for their kindness in caring for Joe.
A Mass of Christian Burial with military honors will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, May 6 at Fort Indiantown Gap Cemetery
