Harley “Hal” Donley Jr., 94 of Dover, passed away on Friday, November 29, 2024 at York South Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. His loving family was by his side. He was the husband of Nancy Lou (Walker) Conaway Donley whom he married 53 years ago on December 31st, 1970.
Harley was born October 21, 1930 in Cly, PA. and was the son of the late Harley Donley Sr. & Vema (Roller) Donley Stough.
Harley attended Manchester High School and received his GED through the state of PA. Harley served proudly in the US Naval Reserve with a cruise through the Panama Canal aboard the USS Missouri from March 1948 to April 1952. He served as a corporal in the US Marine Corps from April 1952 to 1954 at Camp LeJeune, NC. Harley started as a slitter operator at Superior Paper Products in 1947. Superior was bought by St. Regis Paper Co. and later bought by Georgia Pacific. He retired as Personnel-Purchasing Manager in 1992 after 45 years in Mt. Wolf in the same building.
He was an avid New York Yankee fan since seeing the movie “Pride of the Yankees” in 1942. He played amateur baseball in York County as a switch hitter for several teams and wore #7.
He was also an avid golfer and was Grandview Golf Course Club Champion in 1982 and Grandview Seniors Club Champion in 1992. He had 8 career “hole-in-ones” at various courses including hole #16 at Port Royal Golf Course in Bermuda.
Harley was a member of Shiloh Lutheran Church, Grandview GC, Central League Old Timers Assoc, and many other organizations.
Harley is survived by his wife Nancy, his daughter Tana (Donley) Lewis and her husband Michael of Shiloh, his sons Brett A. Donley of Mt. Wolf, Jeffry Conaway of Dover, and Lynn Conaway & his wife Sharon of Huntingdon, PA, 7 Grandchildren, and 7 Great Grandchildren, 2 brothers, Rick Stough & wife Ellen of Shiloh, Jim Donley of York Haven, and several nieces & nephews. He was proceeded in death by his brother Elwood Donley of Fayetteville, PA.
Cremation by Cremation Society of PA.
Funeral services will be held at Shiloh Lutheran Church located at 2201 Church Road, Shiloh, PAon Sunday December 15th. Visitation begins at 1:00pm and the service officiated by Pastor DeAnn Books starts at 2:00pm. Memorial contributions can be made to Shiloh Lutheran Church.
