Gwendolyn Partridge Sadler Minor

Gwendolyn Partridge Minor, 96, passed away Friday, December 18, 2015, in her residence at Bethany Village, Mechanicsburg. She was the widow of Col. John (Jack) Harrington Partridge USMC (d. 1987) and Henry Clay Minor (d. 2007).

Born January 6, 1919, in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Henry H. and Agnes (Cross) Sadler of Annapolis, MD. She had one brother Dr. Harrison Sadler (d. 1998) of Belvedere, CA.

She was a member of Camp Hill United Methodist Church, PA State Education Assoc. (PSEA), Cumberland County Chapter PA School Retirees (CCCPASR), Hillside School Retirees, past president of Highland Women’s Club (and their 1996 Woman of the Year), past president of the P.W. Milano Marine Corps League Auxiliary and a life member of Bethany Village Auxiliary.

A graduate of Annapolis High School (1936) and Towson State Teachers College (1940), Gwen spent 23 years as a military wife, raising 3 children and teaching or volunteering at schools in various post locations. When Jack retired they settled in Cedar Cliff Manor. She taught for the West Shore School District from 1966-1978 at Fishing Creek and then Hillside Elementary. She was a former Girl Scout leader, always an avid gardener, bridge player and also loved songbirds. In her retirement, Gwen traveled extensively and participated in several Elderhostels. In 1988, Gwen married Henry Minor. They moved to Bethany Village in 1996 where she was an active volunteer and enjoyed many activities, especially singing in the Women’s Chorus. For a while, Gwen and Henry were featured as the iconic dancing couple in the Bethany Village ads!

She will be lovingly remembered by her children: James Partridge of Kennewick, WA, Janet Sanders and husband Lin of Mechanicsburg, and Joanne Beckman and husband Jim of East Syracuse, NY, and by Mona Rodgers of Carlisle (her caregiver for the past 8 years), and by Henry Minor’s extended family.

Private Inurnment will be at Rolling Green Cemetery in Camp Hill.
