On July 9, 2024, George D. Hauber, Sr., left our presence to meet his best friend, the Lord Jesus Christ. George was born the third son of Louise Caroline and Albert Henry Hauber, Jr., in December 1944, in Philadelphia, PA. George accepted Christ as his Savior at the age of seven, while attending Sandy Cove Bible Camp and led his life serving the Lord from that point forward. He graduated from Millersville State College, Millersville, PA, earning a “Bachelor of Science in Education” degree and continued on to earn a “Masters Degree in Industrial Education” from Ball State University in Muncie, IN. Following school, George led a distinguished teaching career at Millersville University in the Industrial Arts of woodworking, construction, printing, photography, automotive, and desktop publishing. 34 of his 37-year teaching career were in Osburn Hall at Millersville, and he was granted “Faculty Emeritus” status upon his retirement in 2004. In addition to teaching, during his tenure at the University, George served in a Board seat and various other roles at Student Services Inc. and the University continues to provide a female athletic housing scholarship in honor of George’s support and work at Student Services. George received recognition from the Pennsylvania Department of Education with the “Commonwealth Teaching Fellowship” award and the “Certificate of Excellence in Teaching.”
George was an active member of Calvary Church for 49 years, serving several terms as a Deacon as well as being the Head of the Missionary Housing Committee for 25 years. In 2008, in recognition of his industrial arts expertise and his commitment and service to the church, he was appointed as “Clerk of the Works” overseeing the construction of the newest education wing of the church. George and his wife, Patricia, were involved in over 40 international missionary trips to assist global partners serving around the world.
George is survived by his wife of sixty years, Patricia L. Hauber, and his four children: G. David Hauber, Jr., with his wife Christine, of Fredericksburg, VA, William R. Hauber, of Millersville, PA, Tricia L. Hauber and Suzanne L. Hauber, both of Lancaster, PA. He leaves behind five grandchildren: Jamie Marie Hockaday and her husband Cory, of Newport News, VA, Jonathan Hauber and his fiancé Hannah, of Newport News, VA, Coleman Hauber and his girlfriend Emily, of Radnor, PA, Ian Hauber, of Lancaster, PA, and step-grandson Jason Wiederwax, of Mount Joy, PA.
A Celebration of George’s Life, followed by fellowship and a meal, will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at Calvary Church, 1051 Landis Valley Road, Lancaster, PA 17601
