Gary Thomas Wood

Gary Thomas Wood, 51, of Lower Paxton Twp., passed away tragically and expectedly on Thursday, February 21, 2013. He graduated from Hershey High School in 1979 and in 1986 from Penn State University with a bachelor’s degree in marketing.

Gary worked for Saint Catherine Laboure Church and School, Harrisburg and the Veterans of Foreign Affairs, Harrisburg. His hard work, dedication, and love for the children at Saint Catherine’s were recognized often by the administration and faculty but especially by the students who affectionately referred to him as Mr. Gary.

A good and caring man, Gary had a great sense of humor. Family was always the most important thing to him and his children are his legacy. Gary enjoyed the outdoors, especially baseball, golfing and fishing.

Gary was born in Sunbury, PA, and leaves behind his loving wife of 25 years, Maria (Dietz) Wood; two wonderful children, Megan and Jack Wood, both of Harrisburg. In addition, Gary is survived by his mother, Lois (Hontz) Wood of Harrisburg; sister, Betsy Weaver, of Halifax; and countless family and friends that loved him dearly. He was predeceased by his father, Jack Wood.

Visitation will be held 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Tuesday, February 26th, at Neill Funeral Home, 3501 Derry St., Harrisburg, recitation of the Rosary will be at 8:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 27th, at St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church, Harrisburg, followed by the burial at Resurrection Cemetery.
