Evangeline Billys has fallen asleep in the Lord peacefully in her home with her son Dr. Michael and daughter Stephanie by her side. She was 97 years old. Born to George and Stavroula Bliamblias Rentos in New York City, Evangeline was the eldest of 3 children. At age 7, the family traveled to Karpasi Lemnos, Greece with her father remaining while preparing for their return when she was 13.
She was preceded in death by husband Charles, who died just short of his 88th birthday in 2010. Surviving are her sister Molly Kramer (+Jerry) of Reading, PA., and brother Dr. Pantelis Rentos (+Margaret) of Tampa, Florida with also her nephews are Dr. Jon Kramer (Donna), George Rentos, and Michael Rentos. Also surviving is her niece Cheryl Kramer-Zabrecchi (Roland).
Evangeline retired from the Department of Environmental Resources for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania with 33 years of public service.
Evangeline was a prominent member of the Daughters of the Nile and Eastern Star. She also was a member of the Amaranth society where she assumed various roles that led to her becoming Royal Matron. Daughter Stephanie became Royal Patron on the court.
Evangeline attended church faithfully as a member of Saints Constantine & Helen of Reading, PA and Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Camp Hill, PA. At both churches, she participated in their Philoptochos societies, Senior Citizens, Church Festivals, while serving as youth advisors while her children were growing up.
Evangeline enjoyed traveling with her family to many places including Greece, Spain, and Hawaii. She and Charles also joined a pilgrimage to the Holy Lands with the two Greek Orthodox churches organized together from Reading, PA. Both Evangeline and Charles were baptized in the Jordan River.
A private family viewing and funeral took place Tuesday, January 14th, 2025 in the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Camp Hill, PA with Fr. Michael Varvarelis and Fr. Aaron Gilbert officiating.
An interment ceremony took place at the Ft. Indiantown Gap National Cemetery outside Annville, PA.
