Erma L. Barnhart

Erma was born on October 25, 1939, in Syracuse, NY. She was the oldest daughter of Eugene A Lord and Erma M (Crockett). She attended Murray State University in Kentucky, but did not complete her Bachelor degree until later in life, at York College of PA. Erma was known as an excellent cook and seamstress and enjoyed traveling the world with her husband, Rev. Maynard "Barney" Barnhart, whom proceeded her in death. An avid history buff, Erma enjoyed researching genealogy, Gettysburg Civil Roundtable and was active in the East Berlin Historical Society. She was a member of the Gettysburg Chorus for many years, was a member of Christ Lutheran Bell Choir and sang in the church choir.

Erma is survived by 4 sisters; Kathryn Nelson, Lindy (Roy) Golly, Sharon Shanahan, and Wendy Reader. She is also survived by her children; 2 daughters, Shannon (Chris) Knorr of Celina Texas, and Kathryn (Monte) Jones of York, PA, and son, Sean (Kathie) Burns of Marysville, PA. 8 grandchildren; Ashley, Erika, Alex, Christopher, Bryce, Cameron, Spencer, and Mackenzie, and 5 great grandchildren.

Erma was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene "Butch" Lord.

A memorial service is planned for Saturday, November 16, 2024 at 1:00 pm at Christ Lutheran Church, 29 S George St, York PA 17401, with Rev. Dr. Doug Johnson officiating.
