It is with a sad heart that I announce that Mom went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, September 23, 2024 at Church of God Nursing Home in Carlisle, PA. Now she is flying in heaven with Dad, Nana, her sibs and friends.
Doris “Dorie” was born on July 7, 1936 in Mary D, PA the daughter of the late Roy E Heller and Mary Stancavage. She married Paul E Slifko, Senior in April 24, 1958. She was an active member of Saint Theresa’s Parish in New Cumberland for decades, baking goodies for the church bazaar and volunteering. Dorie loved to bowl, and was on her Sunday league for many, many years. She worked for Factory Service and Supply Company for over 45 years in Lewisberry, PA.
Mom was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. One of my fondest memories of her was when she put our clothes in the dryer before school. So that we could walk to the bus stop and stay warm in the cold and snowy winters in the 1960’s. And she enjoyed baking us birthday cakes and whoopee pies, cooking, canning fruits and vegetables all from our backyard garden. Mom volunteered at the baseball, and football game candy tables for Paul and Matt. And Thanksgiving at Mom and Dad’s and the siblings from Schuylkill County was always a wonderful time, as long as you stayed out of her corner when she put on the master chef hat.
Dorie is survived by three children and their spouses, Cynthia (Slifko) and Michael Johnson of Mechanicsburg, Paul E Slifko Junior and Lisa Young of Eastonton, GA and Matthew and Paula Slifko of Etters. Mom was a loving grandmother to Abigail, Jessica, Allison, Chelsie and Anna Grace; and great grandmother to, Elliott, Charlotte, Valerie, Harley and Cooper. And brothers Bernard and Michael Heller and countless cousins and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a Sister Patricia Pogwist, and Brother John Heller.
There will not be a funeral visitation or mass. A mass will be said in her honor on January 3,2025 at 6:30AM at St Theresa’s Catholic Church at 1200 Bridge Street, New Cumberland, PA 17070 -717-774-5918. Mom was cremated at the Cremation and Burial Society of PA.
Burial is private.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Hospice at HomelandatHome.org or calling 717-857-7400 or Alzheimer’s Association at ALZ.org in her name or by calling 800-272-3900.
