On Tuesday, December 15, 2020, Clyde A Sheaffer, Jr, of Rutherford, loving husband, son, father, grandfather (POP) and great grandfather passed away at the age of 84 after his battle with cancer. Clyde was born on August 14, 1936 in Enhaut, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Clyde and Mary (Staub) Sheaffer. Brother to Marie Sheaffer, Enola, Pennsylvania.
Clyde truly lived life to the fullest whether at home, on vacation in Canada, or at the family cabin. Spending time with those he loved was the most important thing in his life. Clyde is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 64 years Beverly Gleim Sheaffer whom he married on January 25, 1957. They were blessed and raised three sons, Clyde Bradley Sheaffer (Debra), Brian Guy Sheaffer and Brent Alan Sheaffer. Their blessings continued to grow with grandchildren Amy Sheaffer-Wise, Jason B. Sheaffer (Alexis), Kristin K. Hanna (Donnie), Brian G. Sheaffer, II. (Shannon), Tara N. Dyckman (Joseph), Tana R. Thomas (Seth), Andrew R. Swigart (Becky) and Amanda I. Potteiger (Joshua). Their life was further enhanced by great-grandchildren Lily, Lukas and Madelyn Wise, Isabella, Nova and Aubrey Sheaffer, Kaci and Tyler Hanna, Titus and Annabel Sheaffer, Samuel, Melanie and Bridget Dyckman, Hunter, Tristen and Emmalyn Thomas, Bennett and Bryson Potteiger.
Clyde was one remarkable man and for 63 years, Clyde was a charter member of the former Christ UMC of Rutherford. He held membership at the 29th Street UMC and most recently Calvary United Methodist Church. He was a 1954 graduate of the Lower Paxton High School. Clyde began his career at Bethlehem Steel on October 12, 1956 and retired at age 55 as a General Foreman of the Pipe Mill. He enjoyed his weekly gatherings with those whom he worked closely. He was a long-time member of the Harrisburg Hunters & Anglers and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his boys. As an adult he gave his time as a leader with the Boy Scouts for many years. He continued his giving nature by spending 17 years delivering Meals on Wheels for those in need.
Due to the current restrictions a celebration of his life will be held at a future date.
