Charlie passed away peacefully in the home of his daughter on Wednesday, March 27, 2013. Charlie was born on October 14, 1928 in Johnstown, PA. He served in the Navy as seaman on the USS Skagit, was retired utility plant operator for the Hiram G. Andrews Center in Johnstown, a bus driver and a member of St. Catherine Laboure Roman Catholic Church, Swatara Twp.
“Grandpap” enjoyed fishing, the Civil War, feeding birds and watching movies with his grandchildren. And then there was the time that Grandpap wrestled alligators in the Nile, was a camel driver in the Sahara, and of course an astronaut on the Apollo missions to the moon when he wasn’t saving Gotham City as Batman. We will miss you Grandpap.
Preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth and son Charles. Charlie is survived by two daughters, Lauren Rogers and Robin Smith and her husband Tim Smith, his sisters Jeanette Razga and Marie Bobak, grand children, Nicole Smith, Ryan Smith, Tyler Smith, Lindsey Rogers and Anna Rogers and his sheltie Lucky.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 4, 2013, at 11:00 am in St. Catherine Laboure Roman Catholic Church, 4000 Derry St., Swatara Twp. A viewing will be held on Thursday, April 4th from 10 am until 11 am in his church. Arrangements are being handled by Neill Funeral Home, Harrisburg. Burial with full military honors will follow in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
