He was a graduate of Central Dauphin East High School, class of 1972, Indiana University of Pennsylvania , class of 1976 in which he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts; Ohio Southern University, Pettit College of Law , class of 1979 with a degree of Juris Doctor; and the Pennsylvania State Police Certified Course of Instruction for Municipal Police in 1984.
He retired from the Swatara Twp. Police department where he was awarded the Department’s Medal of Valor. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp Reserve and earned an honorable discharge in 1976
Barry loved to spend his free time fishing. He was a lifelong student of martial arts. He earned a Black Belt in Shotokan Karate, and studied Isshinryu Karate as well. He loved Italian culture and food and especially Italian opera and was an accomplished tenor. He had recently appeared with the Harrisburg Opera Association in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
He is survived by his daughter, Katye Iona Trexler, of Harrisburg; his Godson, Nicholas Joseph Calla of Halifax, several cousins, and many close friends who were important people in Barry’s life.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Barry’s life will be held on Friday January 27th at 7:00pm at Neill Funeral Home, 3501 Derry St., Harrisburg.
Burial will be private at the discretion of the family.
