“Reunited and headed to the seashore with the kids”
Barry Lee Ebersole, 80, of Harrisburg, passed away, Friday, October 25, 2024 at 4:40 PM in the company of family.
Born January 29, 1944 in Harrisburg, he was the first of two sons of the late Earl W. Ebersole and Laura V. Horner. His brother Richard Ebersole passed away several years ago. Barry was a member of Penbrook Lutheran Church. After graduating Central Dauphin H.S in 1961, Barry served in the U.S. Navy until 1967. After being honorably discharged, he found his way into The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 143 apprenticeship program. IBEW Local 143 is where Barry would devote his work life for the next 3 decades in varying roles. He served as Journeyman, Training Dir and Asst Business Manager until his retirement in 2006.
Barry married Janice E. Guttshall of Penbrook on April 6, 1968. The two families lived just blocks away as children. They started their own family in 1970, with the first of three boys. As the children grew and began to get involved in sports, Barry became actively involved in the local little league baseball. He was coach and President of PHR Baseball, President of LPWH Baseball, Treasurer for Susquehanna Valley Baseball and Treasurer for Central Penn Baseball Tournament.
Barry is survived by 3 sons. Curtis L. Ebersole of Harrisburg, Heather (Gallo) Ebersole (wife). Matt A. Ebersole, Kimberley (Parrigan) Ebersole (wife). Kyle R. Ebersole, Stephanie Nickliss (partner). He also has 5 grandchildren, in order by age, Brady, Taylor, Chase, Payton and Riley and 3 step-grandchildren Aiden, Christian and Julian (Kring). Also surviving is Brother-in-law, Jack Guttshall (Mt Holly Springs), Nephew, Bret Guttshall (Chambersburg), Niece, Tracy Guttshall and Nephew, Kenneth Ebersole.
In life, Barry loved his family, his dogs, his Union, PSU Football and his baseball relationships. Wife, Janice, whom passed away in 2011, was known to love a certain New Jersey beach. Her dream was to have a house at the beach, which almost came to fruition. Barry waited patiently for all three of his sons to be present on October 25th before he took his last breath. After patiently waiting thirteen years, mom and dad might not have physical house at the beach, but we will make sure their final home is at the beach.
A memorial service will be held Saturday November 9, 2024, 3:00 PM at Zimmerman Auer Funeral Home, 4100 Jonestown Rd, Harrisburg PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the animal shelter of your choosing.
