Anna was predeceased by her husband Joseph, her parents Mary and Thomas Mital, and sisters Mary, Ruth, and Mildred. She is survived by her three children, Anne Yenchko of Sykesville MD, Suzanne Yenchko of Lemoyne PA, and Elizabeth Yenchko and her husband Juraj Kittler of Canton NY. Anna Mital Yenchko was one of five daughters and was born in Bridgeport CT on June 10, 1923. She grew up during the Great Depression, attended Central High School, Bridgeport, and worked at Jenkins Valve Company after graduation. She met Joseph Yenchko at church choir practice while he was visiting from Hazleton PA. They were married in 1943 and celebrated 65 years of marriage until her devoted husband, Joseph, died in 2008 at the age of 88. Anna and Joseph lived in Virginia and North Carolina, settling in Hazleton after WWII, where they made their home.
Anna was a member of St. Peter and Paul Slovak Lutheran Church, Hazleton where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and served on the church council including several terms as church president and treasurer. Anna was a creative homemaker and hostess who could fit in extra dinner guests on a moment’s notice since she and Joe entertained many industrial prospects who were looking to relocate their businesses to the Hazleton area. They participated in many church activities, the HHS Class of 1937 group functions, Jaycee and Chamber of Commerce events, and the 103rd combat engineers’ reunions – Joe’s army company in WWII.
Anna and Joe traveled widely – to Czechoslovakia, France, Germany, England, Belgium and the Caribbean, as well as throughout the United States. She worked for Highway Equipment and Supply Co., Drums PA for several years before retiring. Anna lived a full and vigorous life with enduring optimism, a strong faith and a positive outlook. With her independent and vivacious spirit she served as a role model to her family and many others. After 2008 she traveled with her daughters to Slovakia, Iceland, New England, visited national parks in the Western states, and often wintered in Florida.
Anna moved to Bethany Village in 2008 and joined St. Mark Lutheran Church, Mechanicsburg, making many friends in the Bethany community. She especially enjoyed midweek card games and Saturday evening Tripoly games with her friends there. She was an excellent cook, loved classical music, always kept a lovely and comfortable home, was an avid gardener and a voracious reader – but most of all she was dedicated to and loved her family.
