Virginia "Ruth" Wallace Brown

Mrs. Brown was born October 10, 1924, in Yadkin County to the late Andrew G. and Viola Denny Wallace. She attended Union Grove School, and was married to the late John T. Brown.

Ruth’s love for children was apparent as she worked as a custodian and cafeteria worker for many years at Union Grove Elementary School. She later moved to North Iredell Middle School and worked in the cafeteria. She was the community mom for lots of young children who stayed with her after school. Her first love was her grandchildren and secondly was her love for gardening both vegetable and flowers.

Left to cherish her memory is her son, Jerry Brown (Dianne), grandsons, Scottie Brown (Tara), Michael Brown, three step grandchildren Brandi Black, Tracy Black and Jeffery Black, and two step-great grandsons. Also surviving are two sisters Juanita W. Cashatt of High Point, Nellie W. Myers of Statesville, and a brother Dwight Wallace (Joann) of Statesville, a special nephew Richard “Ricky” Myers of Olin, and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and her “school” children. Preceding her in death was her husband and a daughter Brenda Roten and a brother, Henry Wallace.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at Reavis Funeral Home of Harmony. Funeral services will be conducted in the Ernest M. Troutman Memorial Chapel at 2 p.m. Thursday with Rev. J. R. Speece officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Baptist Church in Union Grove. Pallbearers will be Michael Brown, Scottie Brown, Bill Jordan, Jim Jordan, Mike Keller, Mark Booe, Charles Cass and Leon Cass.
