He was born May 10, 1925, in Harmony, NC, and was the son of the late Marvin and Mary Harbin Wooten. He was a retired farmer and painting contractor. He was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church where he served as organist for over 40 years, had served on the Administrative Council, and was a former member of the United Methodist Men.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Shelba Mason Wooten, whom he married on June 11, 1960; two sons, Kelvin (Wendy) Wooten of Olin and Kent (Pam) Wooten of Mooresville; four grandchildren, Paige Wooten of Olin, Tyler Wooten, Ryan Wooten, and Samantha Wooten, all of Mooresville; three sisters, Evelyn Webb of Jacksonville, FL, Gertrude (Jack) Zachary of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Nancy Poore of Winston-Salem; a brother, Robert “Bobby” (Agnes) Wooten of Olin; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services celebrating Jack’s life will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 22, 2012, at Harmony United Methodist Church with the Rev. Neal Jones and the Rev. Carroll Lindsey officiating. Burial will follow at Macedonia United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11:00 AM Saturday at the church prior to the service.
