She was born April 3, 1922, in Newton, IL, and was the daughter of the late Ralph Lesley and Alta Edith Hall Aldridge. She attended beautician school in Indianapolis, IN, and worked as a beautician in Champaign-Urbana, IL. It was there that she met her future husband, Miner Steele Hix, whom she married on February 4, 1945, and relocated to NC. He preceded her in death on August 18, 1991. She worked as a beautician at Babe Alexander’s Shop in Statesville before retiring in 1979. She was an active member of Harmony United Methodist Church and was also a member of the Ladies Auxilliary, Flower Garden Club, and the Senior Citizen’s Council on Aging.
She is survived by a son, Richard Lesley Hix, and his wife, Jane Carson Hix; three grandchildren, Paxton (Jennifer) Hix, Matthew (Michelle) Hix, and Nichola (Thad) Gaither; six wonderful great-grandchildren, Scout, Story, Riley, Steel, Carson and Graham, all of Olin; a sister, Ellen Aldridge of Olney, IL; two nieces, Robin (Ralph) Smalley and Georgia (Roger) Carter and their families of Illinois; a brother-in-law, David Hix of Cherry Grove, SC; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Hix of Harmony; and close extended family that lives in NC, SC, IL, OH, OK, TN, PA, CO and HI.
Funeral service celebrating Edith’s life will be held at 3:30 PM Thursday, October 24, 2013, at Harmony United Methodist Church with the Rev. Neal Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 PM Thursday at the church prior to the service.
