He was born October 3, 1934 in Iredell County to the late Austin Shaw and Mamie Beck Shaw. Don was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of Rock Spring Baptist Church where he had served as Sunday School Superintendent and a Sunday School teacher. He retired after 45 years of service as a supervisor at Kewaunee Scientific Corp. in Statesville in 1999. After his retirement, he worked part time at Statesville Auto Auction. Don enjoyed working outdoors in his garden and wood shop. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was a loving huisband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
He is survived by his loving wife, Inge B. Shaw, a son, Tim Shaw, a daughter, Sandy Cox and her husband, Gary, three grandsons: Doug Shaw, Chase Cox and Chad Cox, one great grand daughter, Morgan Shaw along with three sisters, Estelle Allen, Elaine Beauchamp and Bonnie Troutman and an aunt, Ila Beck.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Brenton Shaw.
Don touched the lives of so many people with his kindness and generosity, always willing to help anyone in need.
The family offers their most sincere appreciation to Dr. Geary, Dr. Ghanami, ICU staff, and the Transplant Team at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center for their care and compassion.
Services celebrating Don's life will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Friday at Rock Spring Baptist Church with Rev. Jesse Stroud and Rev. Greg McEwen officiating.
Pallbearers will be: Buddy Allen, Doug Shaw, John Frank Reavis, Joel McEwen, Jessie Wade Overcash and J.C. Williards. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Thursday evening at the Reavis Funeral Home Of Harmony and at other times will be assembled at the home.
