He was born February 11, 1955, in Iredell County and was the son of the late Clyde Daniel and Verda “Vertie” Wooten Jenkins. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of Hebron Baptist Church. He was a former contractor in the construction industry and later worked at J.R.’s Discount Outlet in Statesville. He was a giving person with a great sense of humor who never met a stranger. He loved life, laughter and family and liked to supervise projects. He enjoyed cars and had formerly helped build race cars.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Allen Bennett, and a brother, David Wooten.
He is survived by his wife, Diane Rochester Jenkins, whom he married on December 6, 1996; six children, Jeremy James Jenkins (Tina) and Cary Jenkins (Jon) Stewart, both of Statesville, Shane Saunders of Harmony, Roger (Maria) Johnson of Williamsburg, VA, Carl Johnson of Morganton, and Shannon Bennett (Michelle) of West Palm Beach, FL; two sisters, Cathy Williams of Mooresville and Candyce Manning of Myrtle Beach, SC; two brothers, Joseph Jenkins of Yadkinville and Donald Blackwelder of Mooresville; 12 grandchildren, Kenny Davis, Alexis Poteat, Brittany Saunders, Meredith Saunders, Michael Saunders, Taylor Johnson, Chelsea Johnson, Megan Bennett, Brady Bennett, Amanda Borgilt, Candace Bennett and Jana Bennett; 4 great-grandchildren; a special aunt, Geraldine Smith of Statesville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service celebrating Danny’s life will be held at 11:00 Saturday, September 27, 2014, in the Ernest Troutman Memorial Chapel at Reavis Funeral Home of Harmony with the Revs. Darren Johnson and Brent Alexander officiating. Burial will follow at Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery with military rites accorded by Harmony American Legion Post 113.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 PM Friday, September 26, at the funeral home chapel.
