Maria L. “Estella” Pena, 81, of San Benito, Texas entered into eternal rest on November 19, 2017 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Pena, worked in the food service industry for many years at Valley Baptist Medical Center in the 1950s, Fred Booth Elementary for 15 years where she loved cooking for the children, and spent the next 8 years working at various schools until retirement. After her retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, antiquing, gardening, and dancing. She loved cooking and baking for her family as well as visiting friends over coffee and “pan dulce”.
Maria was preceded in death by her parents, Cecilia Parra Huerta and Serapio Lopez; her brothers, Santiago Parra, Jose Parra, and Jesus Rios; and by a great-granddaughter, Bailee Elise Terman.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her loving husband of fifty five years, Bernabe C. Pena; daughter, Ethel (Arturo) Guzman; son, Rene Pena; granddaughters, Lyzette (Geoff) Terman, Ariel (Jesus) Torres, Monica R. Pena, and Nova Pena; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Erin, Benjamin Terman, and Jaxson Torres; sister, Juanita Castaneda; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 24, 2017 beginning at 3 p.m., and will continue until 9 p.m., with the recitation of the holy rosary to begin at 7 p.m., at Funeraria del Angel. A Chapel service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, November 25, at Funeraria del Angel with burial to follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito, Texas.
