Manuel A. Alvarez, 65, went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 17, 2012, at his residence in Harlingen, Texas. He was born in Harlingen, Texas on June 6, 1947. He was a hard working man. He started working at the age of 20. His favorite color was blue. He also served in the US Army from 1968 to 1970 in Vietnam. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lorenzo and Amalia Alvarez.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Linda Alvarez; his children, Manuel Alvarez, Jr., Marco Alvarez, Sandra Alvarez; his three sisters, Alicia Rodriguez, Mary Gonzalez, Alma Ochoa; his brother, Juan Alvarez; and his mentor and cousin, Petra Rojas. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Alejandra Alvarez, Adrian Alvarez, Kaitlyn Perkins, Ethan Perkins, and Evan Perkins.
“I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one. I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done. I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways of happy times and laughing times, and bright and sunny days. I’d like the tears of those who grieve to dry before the sun of happy memories that I leave when life is done.”
Visitation will be held Sunday, August 19, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Funeraria Del Angel Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 20, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at San Felipe Catholic Church in Harlingen, Texas. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park in La Feria, Texas.
