Richard E. Porter

RICHARD E. PORTER, 80, of LaOtto, died on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, at his residence. Born Jan. 1, 1932, in Fort Wayne, he was the son of the late Gerald and Eileen Porter. He retired in 1984 from International Harvester after 30 years of service. He was a history buff, who was considered the local historian in the LaOtto area. He was also very interested in the Civil War. Surviving are his sons, Michael (Kathy) Porter of Ames, Iowa and Larry (Jan) Porter of Fort Wayne; daughter, Carolyn (Scott) Griffith of West Chester, Ohio; five grandchildren; twin sisters, Jane (Mike) Helbert of Albion and Janet (Ed) Parker of Fort Wayne; and brothers, Gary (Cherry) Porter of Hartsville, S.C. and Dennis (Gail) Porter of Rockaway, Ore. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Peggy, in 1998; and son, Steven Porter, in 2004. Funeral service is 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, at Hockemeyer Funeral Home, Harlan, with visitation 1 1/2 hours prior. Burial in Harlan Memorial Cemetery, Harlan.
