Betty I Sauder, 95, graduated from her earthly home on March 8, 2025. and now resides in heaven with those who have gone before her. Betty and her twin brother, Byron, were born August 4th, 1929, to Earl and Maude (Evard) Weilbaker in Allen County, IN. She grew up with 3 sisters and 6 brothers as they lived a number of places throughout the county. Her final childhood home was located on the farm that was developed into River Bend Bluffs many years after her father died. Betty married Wayne Lawson Carlisle on March 4, 1950, and widowed in 1959. On Sept. 9, 1961, she married Joseph Jay Sauder and he became an instant father to her 4 children. Betty lived a very full life and was known as a kind and industrious woman. Her family was very important to her. She will be remembered as the hub of not only her birth family but also the glue that held all 5 of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren together through phone calls, letters, family reunions, meals and card playing events. Betty worked primarily as a grocery clerk at Goss’s grocery, C&C grocery, and Eichel’s grocery. She also worked at Sears, Blue Bell Jean Co., and delivered newspapers for a period of time. She enjoyed a variety of hobbies: crocheting, landscaping, reading, crosswords, puzzles, euchre, cooking, birdwatching, and watching NASCAR and IU basketball. She crocheted literally 100’s of prayer shawls and lap robes for UMC. She was a member of the Post 409 legion auxiliary, Over the Hill gang, and was involved in two euchre clubs into her early 90’s. She supported a variety of veteran’s organization as both of her husbands, a daughter, 2 grandsons, along with most of her brothers served. Betty is survived by her children: Gary (Amy) Carlisle, Nikki (Rich) Sheppick, and Cindy (Bob) Kimm, 15 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Gloria Weilbaker, Carole Ivins-Weilbaker, Al Burrell, Paul Sauder, Sam Sauder, Marge Koch, and Dot (Bill) Moore. She was predeceased by both husbands: Wayne and Joseph, 2 sons: Michael and Thomas Carlisle, and all nine of her siblings: Charles, Lucile, Faye, Byron, Dean, Glen, Ross, Dale and Sue. Funeral Services for Betty will be 11:00 am Monday, March 17, 2025, at Grabill Missionary Church, 13637 State Street, Grabill, Indiana 46741. Visitation will be from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm, Friday, March 14, 2025, at Hockemeyer Funeral Home, 17629 State Road 37, Harlan, Indiana 46743 and from 10:00 am until the time of the service on Monday at Grabill Missionary Church. Memorials may be given in her honor to the Wounded Warrior Project.
