William “Bill” Arthur Hastings passed away on November 10, 2016 in his home in Hanford, California that he shared with his wife Jo. Bill was born to Leo Arthur Hastings and Mable (Huber) Hastings in Limestone County, Alabama on July 18, 1931.
He is survived by his siblings; Leo and his wife Cheryl Hastings of Washington, Frances Rogers of Athens, Alabama, Joyce Michaels of Lester, Alabama, Rachel and her husband John Hougum of North Carolina, Dale Boyd of Elkmont, Alabama and Debra and her husband Randy Stevenson of Athens, Alabama.
Bill joined the U.S. Navy in 1951 after graduating from Athens High School in 1951. Bill served from 1951-1954 in the Korean Conflict aboard the USS Thompson as a Gunners Mate.
Later he married Virginia Morales in 1954 and was married until her passing in 1991. He’s survived by his children: stepson Tom Clark and his wife Cyndi of Reno, Joyce and her husband Ron Kellis of Porterville, Billie Jo and her husband Ron Bushee of Corona and Mona and her husband Fred Le Brun de Surville of Porterville, California along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bill then married Jo Anne Lyon in 1996. His is survived by his loving wife Jo Hastings of Hanford and her children; Charlene and her husband Jack Ascione of Montana and Melinda and her husband Roger Red of Hanford, California.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #357 of Buena Park, California and the Scottish Rites 32nd degree Valley of Long Beach, California. He was also passed member of the Cypress Twirlers Square Dancing and the Square 8’s of Hanford, California.
Bill and Jo enjoyed traveling to Alabama, gardening and caring for their two beagles, one miniature donkey and Hackney pony.
Bill will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Bill’s Life with U.S. Navy Military Funeral Honors will be held on Monday, November 28, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at People’s Funeral Chapel; 501 N. Douty Street, Hanford, CA 93230.
