Roy Christian Myers, 86 of Hanford passed away on June 29. Roy was born to Robert and Flossie Myers on September 14, 1928 in Laton Ca. He was an owner of Myers Brothers Well Drilling Incorporated in Hanford for nearly 60 years.
While growing up in Laton California, he worked on the family farm and dairy. As a teenager he worked for the family business Myers Well Drilling. He and his brothers helped their father drill cable tool wells around the Laton and Hanford area until their father’s death in 1951. Roy attended Grant School in Laton and Hanford High School.
Roy and his brother Glenn enlisted in the United States Air Force serving together during the Korean War as aircraft mechanics. After returning home in 1956 Roy began to restore the family business while working many jobs, including Producers Cotton Gin. He completed his first well for Laton Elementary. After some time his brother Fred joined him in drilling. A few years later after his youngest brother Richard returned from the Navy, he and his brothers (Fred, Glenn and Richard) formed what is known today as Myers Brothers Well Drilling Incorporated.
Roy was involved in many business ventures including Myers Brothers Farming, Venida Packing, Snake River Vineyards, MVM Farms, and his most favorite Lazy Man Lodge in Montana.
Roy enjoyed hunting, fishing, dancing, snowmobiling, R.V. traveling, and working on the ranch driving his John Deere. Roy loved to play cards and dominoes with family and friends at any time or anywhere.
Roy was a member of the Elks Lodge, International Order of the Turtles, Kings County Sheriff’s Posse, and United States Marshalls Posse.
Roy had the biggest heart and the best bear hug you could ever have. His handshake and his word were unmatched. He never knew a stranger. Roy was very generous and an extremely hard working man that took pride in everything he did. Roy was the go to person for anyone to turn to that was in need of help. He was an extremely proud father and papa.
He was predeceased by his parents Robert Christian Myers and Flossie Maria Myers, his sister Rose Maria Myers Mathews, Fred O’Dale Myers, Robert Elmer Myers, Richard Ernest Myers, his daughter Lisa Anne Bachman, and his grandsons Colby Anderson, Andrew Johnston.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Catherine, his brother Glenn Calvin Myers of Hanford, his sister Joyce Ilene Hogan (Pat) of Visalia, his daughters, Theresa Kunkel (Eric) of Michigan, Terry Anderson (Jerry), Linda Kirkland, and Susie Myers all of Utah and his son Mike Myers (Stacie) of Hanford. Grandchildren: Stephanie Norg (George), Sarah Hess (John), Christopher Anderson (Charlotte), Ben Johnston (Angie), Brandon Johnston (Kim), Desi Bachman, Kameron Kirkland, Kyle Henne (Aska), Courtney Miller (Joe), Myles and Madison Myers. Great Grandchildren: George Jr., Lauren, and Carter Norg and Ruby Johnston. Brother in laws and sister in laws. Numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Friends and Family are invited to attend graveside services to be held on Wednesday July 8, 2015 at Oak Grove Cemetery 19811 Cedar Ave., Laton Ca. 93242.
