Peter Wayne Defty passed away peacefully of natural causes in his home, with family at his bedside in Sanger CA on May 14, 2012. He was one week short of his 77th birthday. He is survived by his wife Linda of 29 years, his sister Sharon Defty, his brother Michael Defty, his four sons Peter, Jonathan, Edward, and Spencer, his three stepchildren Cindy, Connie, and Rodney, 14 grandchildren, and countless friends worldwide.
Peter’s professional life included a distinguished career as an officer in the United States Marine Corps Reserves starting in 1953. He was a fighter pilot with VMA (AW) 115 and VMA 133 and later transitioned to flying helicopters with HMH 369 where he completed his service as commanding officer before retiring in 1975 as a Lieutenant Colonel, USMCR.
Peter also had a 30 plus year career as a commercial airline pilot flying for both Pan American and United Airlines as a 1st Officer on the Boeing 747.
Peter’s passions were the outdoors, flying, cars, old tractors, meeting new people, and spending time with old friends and family. Pete never met a stranger and was a true friend to all who knew him. He will be missed by all.
