Lois Jean Egger, age 82, left this life and was welcomed into her Heavenly home on Sunday, June 22nd in the presence of family and her precious Lord. Born in Sullivan, Indiana on March 20, 1932 to parents, Ansel and Gladys Mottley, Lois came to California in 1956 where she began work as a waitress at Ginny’s Café. She then embarked on her long career in the medical and optometric fields, working for Drs. Hagen, Burlington, Duffy and Madill. In 1976 Lois took a position as an Optician with the Naval Exchange at Lemoore Naval Air Station, a career that took her to Kitsap-Bangor Naval Base in Poulsbo, WA, Moffett Field in Sunnyvale, CA, the Naval Station at Long Beach, CA , and finally to the Annapolis Navy Exchange in Annapolis, MD until her retirement in 1998. Lois was extremely valued and appreciated for her knowledge, conscientiousness and caring disposition in each of these locations, receiving multiple commendations for her work with the Navy Exchange.
Upon retirement, Lois returned to Hanford where she served as a volunteer in many organizations such as the Kings County Commission on Aging, Republican Women’s Organization, Kings County Elections Office, Glad Tidings Church, Valley Christian Home, Diamond Terraces, Kings Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Hacienda Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
She is survived by her sister, Wanda Fark of Boonville, Indiana, her children, Kaye (Leslie) Leavens and her husband Rick, Shellie (Egger) Warren and her husband Tom both of Hanford, Gary Egger of San Francisco and step-daughter, Brenda (Egger) Dias and her husband Gilbert of Riverdale along with seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Larry and Randy Mottley of Indiana, husband, Charles Leslie, and son, David Leslie of Wisconsin; and husband, Theo Egger and step-son, Randy Egger of Hanford.
Lois loved to collect antiques, sew, sing, share coffee with friends, brag on her family and study her Bible, which she joyfully and faithfully read to the residents of the above mentioned nursing and care facilities weekly for over a decade. She was a long time member of Glad Tidings Church and in recent years added First Christian Church where her son-in-law is pastor to “support her kids.” Her love for God and knowledge of the Bible were woven into every aspect of her life, and she has been a source of true friendship, encouragement and joy to those blessed to know her.
