Leslie "Les" Arnold Collins passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on June 1, 2014 at the age of 92. Les was born April 25, 1922 in Danville IL. He was the fourth child of William Howard Collins and Mable Arnold Collins. Les served as a combat medic in the Pacific Theater during World War II from March 1942 to the end of the war. He was awarded numerous medals, including the Bronze Star.
While visiting his mother in New Mexico, he met and soon married Alice Smith on December 3, 1949. They moved to Hanford in 1960 where Les was worked in management for Sears and Wards until 1980. Les spent his life in service of his country, family and his community. Les was a lifetime member of the Optimist Club from 1954 to 2014. He was involved in many youth programs during those years. In 1984 he was honored as the Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year. He was actively involved in various community projects throughout his years of living in Hanford.
Les is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Alice Collins and his three children. His daughter Teresa Dainty, his son Terry Collins and his twin sister Sharon Smith; 5 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and one soon to be great great grandchild. Les had a wonderful sense of humor, which delighted his family, friends and many acquaintances. He will be greatly missed.
The family asks that instead of flowers that donations be made to the Les Collins Community Foundation of Kings County at the FAST Credit Union in Hanford.
