MCPO (Aviation Maint), U.S. Navy (Ret.) E-9 Master Chief
John died at home Sept. 9, 2011 at the age of 82, after a stoic battle of nearly five years with a number of interconnected illnesses.
One of the “49er Faithful” and an ardent fan of the San Francisco Giants, Dixieland jazz and visits to the California coast, John will be sorely missed by his wife Norma, his children and his grandchildren, all of whom are grateful for his generosity, graciousness and love. John was born in Boston, but the Navy brought him to California which he chose to be his home nearly fifty five years ago. John served with distinction for over 20 years, the veteran of several cruises – some to the South China Sea off Vietnam – on carriers such as the USS Bon Homme Richard and with the Redcocks of attack squadron VA-22. John settled in Hanford among many comrades, a number of who preceded him in death.
At John’s request there will be no public service; the family is having a private burial service at The San Joaquin National Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at a future date. Condolences may be conveyed to his family in care of the Guestbook at the People’s Funeral Chapel website www.peoplesfuneralchapel.com . In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in memory of John to Adventist Hospice Services, 460 Kings County Drive, Hanford, CA 93230 or to the charity of their choice.
