Jerry met and married the love of his life Myrna D. Stevens in Crescent City, CA. Their union blessed them with two daughters: Jena R. Mattos and Lindy D. Akers of Hanford, CA. His love, joy, and pride of family included grandchildren: Michael (Nikki) King, Joseph (Lindsay) Mattos, Candi King (Will), Andrea Burgen, Mitchell (Maggie) King. They blessed his family with great grandchildren: Madison King-Harp, Sheymus, Paisley, Rosie & Annie King, Wade & Willa Mattos, Kennedy & Cassidy Tristao, Parker Burgen, Owen, Charlotte & William King.
He was a 1956 graduate of Del Norte High in Crescent City, CA. Played trombone and won the Bank of America Music Award. Jerry attended Pasadena Nazarene College 1 year then decided to join the Navy. He was proud to have served his country for 20 years. Retired AMHC in 1978 at NAS, Lemoore, CA. He attended West Hills College and College of the Redwoods. Jerry worked as a lab tech for Rumiano Cheese Co. in Crescent City, CA. Jerry was a quality craftsman and enjoyed any type of woodworking projects. They participated in many craft shows selling the products that he cut and prepared for Myrna to decoratively paint. He willingly volunteered to assist in maintenance and various areas of ministry in churches. Also a member of the South County Community Choir in Myrtle Creek, OR.
In addition to his parents, Jerry is preceded in death by his son-in-law, Frank A. Mattos. He is survived by his wife of sixty three years and both daughters.
A special thank you to all the medical staff in Hanford that provided excellent care to Jerry. The Compassionate Care Hospice team and the Home Health Care Aides provided by the Veterans Administration were wonderful with quality care. For everyone that called, came by, brought food, flowers and prayed for us during his illness is greatly appreciated by his family.
