Janet was born September 9, 1933, in San Bernardino California, the daughter of the late Wesley Merril Smith and Ada Fensky Smith. She was the oldest of Wesley and Ada’s three children.
On September 10, 1950, she married Elbert Eugene Dillon in Reno, Nevada, and they made their home in Hanford, CA. Janet graduated from Hanford High School in May of 1958 and periodically worked outside her home as a bookkeeper; but she chose to devote her time and talents predominately to her family as a homemaker.
She was a member of the Theta Tau Theta Sorority, Hanford Chapter and a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ, Latter Day Saints. Her hobbies included genealogy, quilting, sewing, gardening, cooking and traveling with her husband of 66 years throughout the United States and Canada in their RV. In her early years, she was quite an equestrian, whose love for horses and other animals never changed.
Janet was a natural nurturer and servant to hundreds of people. Her name was never in bright lights but her influence was monumental to her family and friends. She was the matriarch of the family and loved beyond measure for her character and humble example.
Janet is survived by her daughter Sherill Dillon Calhoun and son-in-law Ron Calhoun of Lemoore, CA; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Diane Dillon of Hanford, CA.; siblings, Theda Hammond of Morro Bay, CA. and Kenneth and Becky Smith of Oakhurst, CA.; three grandchildren Clint Calhoun of Lemoore, CA.; granddaughter Amber Calhoun Griffin and her husband, John Griffin of Arroyo Grande, CA. and Kevin Dillon and his wife Tiffany Campbell Dillon of Hanford, CA. Great grandchildren include Rian and Riley Calhoun of Hanford, CA. Kali and Mason Dillon of Hanford, CA. and Macie Griffin of Arroyo Grande, CA.
Services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ, Latter Day Saints on Wednesday, May, 18, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. with internment following at the Grangeville Cemetery.
