Isabel "Chavela" Escalon Mendoza

Isabel was born to Eulalio and Manuela Martinez Escalon on May 20, 1947 in Mercedes, Hidalgo County, Texas. Isabel passed away on Thursday, July 5, 2012 at Kaweah Delta Medical Center in Visalia, California. She was loved by everyone who knew and surrounded her. She never turned her back towards anyone. She took in everyone who needed her. She put herself last, just to take care of others. Isabel was known as “Chavela” to those close to her.

Isabel lived in the Delano, California area for the last 25 years. She loved all her children and also loved and spoiled her grandchildren. Also loved her 2 grand pups; Denver and Bruno. Isabel was a housewife and cook for 47 years. She worked for Jack in the Box in Delano for 12 years. She was the best Chorizo and Homemade Flour Tortilla maker. Isabel loved to cook everything and anything. When family or friends came over she always tried her best to have a meal available. Her true passion in life was her love for the Lord and caring for others!

Isabel was preceded in death by her parents; Eulalio & Manuela Escalon. She also was preceded in death by a brother; Johnny Escalon. Isabel is survived by her beloved husband of 35 years; Pedro Ramos, Sr. of Delano, California. She will be missed by her dear sisters and brother; Laura Escalon, Mary Rodriguez and Jose Escalon. She was like a mom to all of them… Isabel leaves her 13 loving children; Anna Martinez of Armona, California, Freddie Martinez of Delano, California, Delilah Cancio of Hanford, California, Robert Martinez of McFarland, California, Martina Romero of Lemoore, California, Manuela Romero of Hanford, California, Dolores Silva of Hanford, California, Anthony Mendoza of Hanford, California, Willie Ramos, Carmen Ramos, Pedro Ramos, Jr. and Augustina Ramos all of Delano, California and Leonela Ramos of Oroville, California. She also leaves behind 4 son-in-laws and 3 daughter-in-laws. She will be truly missed by her beautiful 44 grandchildren and 23 special great-grandchildren.

A Visitation will be held on Monday, July 16, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. all at People’s Funeral Chapel; 501 N. Douty Street, Hanford, CA 93230 559-584-5591. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church; 10355 Hanford-Armona Road, Hanford, CA 93230 559-584-8576 with Burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery; 11680 S. 10th Avenue, Hanford, CA 93230 559-584-3937.
