George Albert VanLandingham a Hanford resident passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at Adventist Medical Center. George was born in Vian, Oklahoma to Riley & Myrtle VanLandingham and was raised in Tulare, Ca. along with his three younger brothers.
As a young man George ran track and attended Tulare High. In time he entered the work field and was a Tire builder and factory worker. After 26 years he retired from Armstrong/Pirelli Tire Company. George couldn’t stay home after retirement so he worked for 13 years as a night clerk at the Hanford Best Western.
George loved his family and especially enjoyed all the fun times with his granddaughter. He cherished their Hawaii trips, enjoyed playing the slots at the Nevada Casinos, going to Morro Bay to eat fish & chips and in his earlier years bowling, golfing, camping and fishing. George’s quick wit and infectious smile put all those who met him at ease.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Blanche M. VanLandingham whom he married at his parent’s Tulare home in 1965. His adoring daughter Tammy Phelps & husband Dan. His cherished grand- daughter Hayden Phelps, his two brothers Riley & wife Jackie of Visalia and Bill of Porterville. Brother-in-law Andy Fochetti Jr. and wife Emily of Tehachapi, Brother-in-law Mike Fochetti of Hanford, numerous nieces and nephews and many close friends
George was preceded in death by his parents and his youngest brother Jerry VanLandingham and his miniature Dachhund Minnie.
The family would like to thank Adventist Medical Care, Dr. Raber and staff for their kindness to George and family. Also, thank Dr. Jay Kerr and staff for several years of care for George.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 25, 2013 at 11 am Hanford Cemetery.
