He is survived by his loving wife, Judy Wayne, three children, daughter Donna (Mike) Hedrick, son Norman (Tama) Bynum, step-daughter Julie (Bill) Landis, 8 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter. He is also survived by two sisters, Joneen (Buddy) Eaton of Hanford, and Leta Jackson of Kingsburg; also nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving family and friends in Mississippi.
Garrold was born on June 5, 1940, in Hanford, California, where he lived until his family moved to Avenal in 1948. He was preceded in death by his father, Balcolm Mooneyham when he was 2, and his adoptive father from age 3, John Q. Bynum, and his mother Bonnie Bynum; also his step-mother Doris Bynum.
While residing in Avenal he attended the local schools, graduating from Avenal High in 1958. He was a member of the Demolay, an organization for young men affiliated with the Masons. He attended Coalinga Junior College for 3 years before working for PG&E. Returning to Hanford in 1964, with his young family, he went to work at Armstrong Tire Company. He eventually left that job to work in Alaska for 30 years as a Master Mechanic of large moving equipment used on the Alaskan Pipeline. Upon returning to Hanford, he worked for Danell Brothers for several years before finally retiring.
In more recent years, since his retirement, he has enjoyed traveling with his wife Judy in their motor home to their time share in Pahrump, Nevada, and several trips visiting friends and family from California to Mississippi (home of his birth father).
He has also enjoyed working with Wayne Gilkey and Gary Jones, lovingly known as the three musketeers by their church family, repairing and maintaining the First Christian Church facilities. He took great pleasure in doing this and was appreciated for his sunny good-nature, teasing disposition and great story-telling abilities.
A Memorial Service will be held at the First Christian Church, of which he was a member, on Saturday February 25th at 11:00 a.m., at 505 W. Cameron Street in Hanford. Pastor Tom Warren will be officiating, with a reception following the service in the social hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of the giver's choice. The family wishes to thank the kind care received in the ICU of Hanford Adventist Hospital and for the many prayers offered by individuals and prayer groups here and in Mississippi, Nevada, Alaska, and other places.
Family and Friends are invited to view Garrold’s legacy at www.peoplesfuneralchapel.com and send condolences to the family.
Services are under the direction of People’s Funeral Chapel.
